Federico Fellini is one of Italy’s most famous directors of all time and one of the most beloved directors in the world. He was a central figure of the international art cinema movement that caught steam in the 1950s and continued to make beloved works and contributions to the industry for decades afterwards and then passed away in 1993. 2020 marks the hundredth anniversary of his birth and, as a result, there will be all sorts of events to commemorate this master of Italian cinema in both his homeland and abroad. But, of course, it is in Italy that the celebrations will be most enthusiastic. Having won Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film for “La strada”, “Nights of Cabiria”, “8 ½”, and “Amarcord”, and the Palme d’Or at Cannes for “La dolce vita”, it is safe to say that Fellini is one of the world’s most lauded directors and it makes sense, therefore, that such a large scale exhibition in his honour will be taking place. The travelling exhibition opens on December 14th 2019 in Rimini in anticipation of the project of the new Fellini Museum, set to open at the end of 2020. Taking place in the Castel Sismondo, Piazza Malatesta and the historic centre of the city, the exhibition will then move on to Rome in April until June 2020 and then be showcased in both Moscow and Berlin. Curated by Studio Azzurro of Milan with the consultation of Marco Bertozzi and Anna Villari, it will reveal unseen notebooks, incredible photographs, film clips and much more besides.
