The Arcipelago di La Maddalena National Park is a truly stunning geomarine national park on the coast of Sardinia that was established in 1994. Covering an area of over 12,000 hectares and stretching along 180 kilometers of coastline, it is comprised of a group of islands and islets located on the north-east of the coast of Gallura, in the stretch of sea between Sardinia and Corsica known as Bocche di Bonifacio, which is soon to be recognised as an international marine park.

All of these islands are either deserted or are only scattered with small human settlements, beside La Maddalena. As a result, it is an area of natural beauty that has largely been untouched and unaltered by human hands. It is just endless, impossibly blue skies and seas, lush hills and greenery, coves, inlets, and long stretches of pretty beaches. The La Maddalena archipelago is a group of beautiful islands located off the north eastern region and island of Sardinia. It consists of seven main islands which are decorated with some pretty little islets. The largest is called Maddalena and has a town of the same name located on it.

Poltu di Li Cogghj is today more often known as the Spiaggia del Principe, the, “Prince's Beach,” since it was famously chosen as the Ishmaelite prince Karim Aga Khan's favourite of all of the many beautiful beaches of the Costa Smeralda due to its especially fine white sands and its crystalline waters that range in hue from green to blue and gleam picturesquely, due to their shallowness and the flecks of granite among the sand. The prince's choosing of the beach as the best and the bestowing of this new title has seen the original name all but fall completely out of use, which is, perhaps a good thing as it rolls off the tongue less easily and given that it translates to the, “Port of Skins.” A rather less pretty name for a beach, it was so-named as the beach was originally used as a place for the loading of various local products but especially leather and leather goods.
