Sardinia, by virtue of being an island, has no shortage of beautiful beaches. By virtue of its location in the Mediterranean, it is also assured that those beaches truly are stunning things to behold, all perfect sands contrasted by azure seas. There is, however, a particular stretch of the coast around Sardinia that is well-known for being especially beautiful. This is the Costa Smeralda.
The Costa Smeralda is located on Sardinia's northeastern coast between the Gulfs of Arzachena and Cugnana, the Costa Smeralda or Emerald Coast and owes its name to its particular hue of sea: an emerald blue that almost seems too beautiful to be real. This stretch of coast has much to offer from its beaches to seaside towns and all of the activities and attractions that come with both. If you are looking for a dreamlike holiday, just find a vacation rental in Sardinia and begin exploring this incredible part of the world.

Crystal-clear turquoise water, unspoiled swathes of nature, luxury hotels, spas, world-class restaurants, bars, clubs, isolated coves and inlets, golf courses and touristic ports, all in perfect harmony with with the idyllic environmental setting; that's what the Costa Smeralda offers. Start off in the glitzy town of Porto Cervo a town with a vibrant nightlife and stylish restaurants, bars and shops, as well as a spot of yacht ogling, before exploring Golfo del Pevero, Cala di Volpe, Punta Capriccioli, the Islands of Motorio and Soffi, Porto Rotondo and the Gulf of Cucagna.
If you want to tour the beaches of the Costa Smeralda, there are some particular stunners to be aware of. Pevero Beach is located just 100 meters away from Hotel Piccolo Pevero just 3 kilometres south of Porto Cervo and is made up of the smaller Piccolo Pevero beach and the larger Grande Pevero beach. Both have shallow waters and are, therefore, perfect for families with small children.

Another lovely beach is Liscia Ruja, (“Long Beach”), located between the villages of Portisco and Cala di Volpe. Long and wide, it is great for long walks and offers lovely views across the Soffi and Mortorio islands. Principe beach (“the Prince’s beach”) is so-called because it is supposedly Prince Karim Aga Khan’s favourite beach. Situated near Cala di Volpe, is is all white sand and perfect clear water that alternates between a rainbow of hues of turquoise.
The Costa Smeralda is wonderful in that it is to please the whole family but can also suit honeymooners, solo travellers in search of quiet and groups of pals alike. It it certainly one of the most beautiful and relaxing parts of Italy.
