Perched on cliffs overlooking the stunning blue waters and pretty coastline of the Bay of Naples, made up of pretty little cobbled streets and sun-drenched piazze, abounding in lush greenery, serving up delicious food paired with sea views, and allowing easy access to the Amalfi Coast, the stunning island of Capri, and the fascinating historical site of Pompeii, Sorrento has it all. Luckily, we have a wonderful selection of villas in Sorrento to choose from, allowing you to easily plan a dream Italian getaway in this scenic part of Campania.
Here at Italy Villas, we believe in making your holiday as seamless and stress-free as possible so once you have found your vacation rental in Sorrento or your holiday rental in Campania and you are looking to start exploring the area, you might be looking into how to get around. Well, never fear, we’re here to helping you find all the information you need to know about this vital, albeit often overlooked aspect of your vacation: transportation.

Here are the ways to navigate Sorrento while staying at one of our vacation rentals in Campania:
Walking: For those staying in, or near, the centre of town, then you really need not worry about transportation at all! Sorrento is best experienced on foot so come and wander her alleys lined with cafés, stop by shops selling limoncello and ceramics, or take a little break in quaint squares and sip on a drink as you soak up the local atmosphere while you make your way around town. Much of the town’s key attractions are all well within walking distance. However, do be prepared for some uphill and downhill sections as the town is nestled on a cliff side: wear comfortable shoes, watch out for older bits of roads that might be uneven despite being charming, and look up your route in advance if you have anyone with mobility issues in your party.
Bus: The local SITA bus service is an efficient and budget-friendly way to explore Sorrento as well as the surrounding area. Linking Sorrento to Ravello, Positano, Praiano, Amalfi, Salerno, and Naples, it is an easy way to see much of the Amalfi Coast throughout your holiday in Campania. Do keep in mind that the buses can be very busy during the peak summer months. If this is something you would prefer to avoid, try heading out early in the morning and you’ll miss some of the worst of the crowds.

Train: Similarly, the Circumvesuviana train connects Naples to many parts of Campania. Dating back to the 19th century, this is a key method of transportation in the region. The Sorrento to Naples line will allow you to access key tourist spots in the area such as Pompeii and Herculaneum. Again, the trains can be very busy in the summer but it is an easy and efficient way to get around while on vacation in Campania.
Car: For more freedom, meanwhile, renting a car is the best choice. This will allow you to go wherever you want, whenever you want, will be more comfortable for those with mobility issues, will allow you to more easy access to the more off-the-beaten-track locations in Campania, and will give you the opportunity to really explore and admire the Amalfi Coastline and her immense beauty. However, the winding roads of the Amalfi Coast can be tricky to navigate so be prepared to drive carefully and to adapt to new challenges.

Ferry: Of course, as a seaside area, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast can be easily navigated by sea as well. A more romantic way to get around, there are ferries, hydrofoils, and private boat tours from the port of Sorrento that will take you to Naples, Capri, and along the Amalfi Coast.
Scooter: For the even more adventurous, renting a scooter is another delightful way to explore Sorrento and the surrounding area – if a little bit cliché. Even more so than with the car rentals, though, caution is key.
