Museo Civico Correr
If you have found a private villa in Venice, you'll likely have imagined traversing the canals, visiting beautiful churches, sipping coffee in a picturesque piazza, and more but lack in specific attractions to visit beyond St. Mark's Square and the Doge's Palace. There are plenty of wonderful museums to visit in the city but one of the best and easiest to visit if you have already made your way to St. Mark's is the Correr Museum, or Museo Civico Correr.
Museo Civico Correr, interior
Located in St. Mark's Square, occupying the 19th century Napoleonic Wing and part of the New Attorney Offices designed by Vincenzo Scamozzi, the museum traces its routes to a collection bequeathed by Venetian noble and collector Teodoro Correr to the city of Venice in 1830. Originally housed in his family's Grand Canal palace, the collection was enlarged due to estate donations from several other important Venetian families, including the Molin, the Zoppetti, the Tironi, the Sagredo, and the Cicogna family. This collection of paintings, maiolica, glass pieces, bronzes and more was moved from the Palazzo Correr to the nearby Fondaco dei Turchi in 1887 before finally being moved to its present location in Piazza San Marco in 1922.

It is a special and beloved museum that offers the opportunity to acquaint oneself with the art and history of Venice. It houses an important collection of Canova's works; collections that document various aspects of the city's history, daily life, naval achievements, and local festivals; and some of the masterpieces of painting of the Venetian that come from the 16th century onwards.

A true must for art lovers visiting the city!
