Best Foodie Experiences In Italy I

Gelateria Dondoli
Italy is an absolute paradise for food lovers and, as a result, we decided that it might be a good idea to compile a list of foodie experiences that are a must for those holidaying in the land of crowd pleasing meals.

If you feel like eating the best ice-cream in the world, for example, you should find a luxury villa in San Gimignano, as, located in the central Piazza della Cisterna, is the Gelateria Dondoli or Gelateria di Piazza. This little shop is known all over the world and has been visited by a large number of celebrities over the years. It has won countless awards, invents flavour combinations that attract gourmet-lovers to the town on a regular basis and has made it World Champion on two occasions. Arguably, this is one of the best places in the entire world to try some ice-cream. Owned by Sergio Dondoli, one of just ten Master Ice-cream Makers in Italy today, the gelateria places importance on passion and creativity and they are constantly innovating new flavours and recipes.
Chocolate of Modica
Among the most famous creations are Crema di Santa Fina (cream of saffron and pine nuts) gelato, Champelmo (pink grapefruit and sparkling wine), Dolceamaro (cream with aromatic herbs) and Vernaccia sorbet but there are endless other options to choose from.

Modica, meanwhile, is famous for her chocolate. The city is considered a UNESCO World Heritage site for its astounding Baroque architecture in the historic centre of the city and is positioned on a hillside with amazing views across the surrounding landscape. The chocolate of Modica is a P.A.T. food, or a Prodotto Agroalimentare Tradizionale, an officially approved traditional regional Italian food. It is characterised by its grainy texture and the recipe used still used to this day is adapted from one brought by Spaniards from the Aztecs.Traditionally, it is flavoured with cinnamon or vanilla but other flavours include chili, coffee, citrus, anise, carob, mint, almonds, pistachio and ginger. Just find a luxury villa in Sicily and try this unique sweet for yourself, while enjoying the stunning city that produces it.
Dishes being plated
If you are more interested in savoury food, you should find a villa with pool in Emilia-Romagna and head to Modena where you will find Osteria Francescana, the best restaurant in the world. Opened in 1995 by Massimo Bottura, a formerly disenchanted law student, it is now a 3 Michelin star restaurant. Lauded since it opened it was awarded its first Michelin star in 2002, a second four years later and, finally, a third in 2011. Unanimously ranked top in class by L’Espresso, Gambero Rosso and the Touring Club Guide, Osteria Francescana has been in the top five of The World`s 50 Best Restaurants listing for several years and has been voted the best restaurant in Italy for the past 7 years. It ascended to the top of the annual ranking of the world’s best restaurant on the 13th of June 2016 and was awarded the honour at the World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards in New York. While eating in the restaurant is, by no means, cheap, it is an extraordinary experience and a must for serious foodies visiting the area.
