Continuing on from our last post, here are some more of the best foodie experiences that you will find in Italy. If you are a food-lover planning a trip to Italy, take note of these activities and attractions and add them to your itinerary.
One of the most expensive foods in the world are truffles and, arguably, the best in the globe are those that are found in Tuscany. There are several fairs and festivals that are expressly dedicated to the truffle in Tuscany each Autumn. San Miniato, for example is known as the Truffle Capital and 25% of all of Italy's white truffles are produced in the territory. It is home to the biggest and best recognised festival for truffles globally, the Festival of the White Truffle of San Miniato. First held on the 26th of October 1969 in Piazza del Duomo, it has been held on the second, third and fourth weekends in November every year since, bar a two year hiatus immediately afterwards.

During the festival a prize is given to the biggest truffle and to the oldest truffle hunter. San Giovanni d'Asso, near Siena and Volterra also both have truffle celebrations every year. Just find luxury villa in San Miniato and experience it for yourself!
Altopascio, another Tuscan town, is famous for its bread. The tradition of bread making has survived in the town for centuries and, while it is not a particularly well-known town, its bread festival makes it a baking mecca each year. Known as the “town of bread”, its annual bread festival in May celebrates its long tradition and the excellence of the bread produced in the town. Made with predominantly Tuscan flour, the recipe does not contain salt and does not use ordinary yeast but, rather, a particular kind of leavening dough that is produced daily.

While the inside remains soft, the crust is lightly crisp and takes on a subtle golden color. Bread is the star of the festival but is accompanied by other local products such as wine, extra virgin olive oil, cheeses and cured meats. More than 30 exhibitors set up on Via Cavour where visitors can taste and buy various types of bread and other products. If you love bread, just find a vacation rental in Altopascio.
