Polignano a Mare is a town and comune on the coast of the Valle d’Itria, Apulia, perched atop a 20m limestone cliff, overlooking the azure of the Adriatic. The settlement of the area traces back to the 4th century BC when the city of Neapolis was founded by Greek settlers. During the Roman era, it grew in size and prosperity and now is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Italy. However, if you're looking for a holiday that offers stunning surroundings, a calm pace of life and wonderful beaches but also has an element of excitement going on as well, Polignano a Mare is just the town for you!

This September 13th, the town will once again host a leg of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series. Find a luxury villa in Apulia and you could attend this astounding and exciting event for yourself in between quiet trips to the beach and wandering around the lovely town.
The World Series was last in the area in 2009 and 2010 and will now return for its penultimate stop on the men's series and third and final for the women's series this year. The cliffs are a huge part of the identity of the town and make the perfect place for the competition. In fact, it was the birthplace of the famous Domenico Modugno, writer and singer of the song "Volare" which means "to fly", bringing to mind the flight from the cliffs in the area.

Furthermore, the town itself is perched on the edge of the cliffs and provides the most unusual take-off spot on the tour.
The athletes will dive directly from a private roof-top terrace and must proceed through a private living room in order to reach the platform, set 27m above the Adriatic Sea. The house is built over the most famous cliff of the coast and looks as though it were part of the cliff itself.
Seeing divers fly through the air, flipping, twisting and tucking awesome heights in just around three seconds per dive, is an outstanding sight. You'll be impressed, terrified and entertained. The competition begins at 3pm on September the 13th and will also be aired on television.
Once all the craziness dies down you can go right back to getting lost on the winding streets, or stunning views, Blue Flag beach, or historic city centre and even do some diving of your own – but maybe from a smaller drop! If you're in Apulia this September, this is one town and event that you will not want to miss!
