The welcoming city of Perugia is the capital city of its region, Umbria is built across the River Tiber. It sits on a high hilltop and expands outwards across surrounding valleys. Perugia dates back to Etruscan times and was a thriving city during the reign of this civilisation. Visitors have a superb choice of villa rentals in Perugia to choose from, some of which have swimming pools and magnificent views of the surrounding area.

The city celebrates many festivals throughout the year including the famous Eurochocolate festival! This is one of the largest chocolate festivals in Europe and takes place every year in October. The lively Umbria Jazz Festival takes place in July and has grown massively in popularity over recent years.

Perugia is a superb artistic and cultural haven in Italy and is home to many magnificent cathedrals, churches and museum which display excellent examples of intricate architecture, fine art and historical artefacts.

Also worth a look is the Palazzo dei Priori which is recognised as being one of the most beautiful buildings in Italy!

Visit the National Museum of Umbria which proudly displays an abundant collection of artworks dating from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Also worth a look around is the National Museum of Umbrian Archaeology which contains lots of Etruscan artefacts.

There are several fascinating Etruscan sites around the city of Perugia to walk around; namely ancient tombs, wells and gates that tell us a great deal about how the Etruscan civilisation thrived here so successfully!
Delicious bruschetta
The cuisine of Perugia and the surrounding area is a perfect symphony of rich rustic flavours and aromatic smells. Bruschetta, which is toasted bread rubbed with a raw garlic clove and topped with a simple tomato salsa is very popular here.

Black truffles are a luxurious addition to any pasta dish when grated over it before eating. Finish off a rich and tasty meal with a local sweet delicacy called Struffoli. These are fried dough balls sweetened with honey.

Be sure to sample a spicy boar, lamb or pork ragù served with the local stangozzi or strozzapreti pasta. Or a pungent fish soup made from a varied catch from Lake Trasimeno called ‘Tegamaccio’.

Perugia has so much and more to offer tourists so why not enjoy a few days of exploring the treasures within this cultural city!
