Porta Alchemica
We don't know about you but here at Easy Reserve we like to avoid the crazy tourist crowds, long lines and madness as best we can when we're on holidays. As such, we're always on the hunt for attractions that are just off the beaten track, sights that are special and a little less well-known, and adventure. In cities like Rome, for example, there are many world-famous attractions that draw people from far and wide. While some of them might be personal musts, there is a lot more to the city beyond those postcard moments.

In fact, right in the central district of Piazza Vittorio, inside the park, the remains of an old villa reveal the Porta Alchemica, the “Alchemist Door” that locals often call the “Magic Door.” This portal is famous among locals and steeped in legend but most tourists never see it and walk right on by.

A fumarole at the Fields; painting by Michael Wutky
The Phlegraean Fields or Campi Flegrei is an area that encompasses land all along the west of Naples, by the bay. The name means “burning fields” and comes from the fact that the area often smokes and sizzles in a remarkably dramatic and hellish way. This area is volcanic in nature and, while none are technically active, there is plenty of seismic activity in the area and it has been hugely affected by its volcanic history.

Vesuvius may be the only active volcano in continental Europe but the Phlegraean Fields' Solfatara is a good place to see some of the effects of volcanism up close. Here you can actually go inside the crater and see its fumaroles (steam vents), boiling mud and ground that's hot to the touch. Solfatara is, in fact, just one of the extraordinary sights that the Phlegraean Fields has to offer and really has to be seen to believe. If you feel like getting in touch with Dante on your next trip to Italy, just find a holiday rental in Campania and see what the Inferno might just look like.     Read More

Church of San Pietro
The Church of San Pietro is a stunning little church, exceptionally popular for weddings, that is perched picturesquely on the tip of the promontory of Portovenere, surrounded by craggy rocks and cliffs and blue seas.

Once the site of a Temple to Venus (Venere in Italian), after whom the town of Portovenere was named, an early Christian building made of black marble was then built there in the 6th century.

In the 13th century a campanile and Gothic extension clad in bands of black and white stone were added to the earlier structure.

Small and a little rugged but very striking and framed by perfect scenery, it is a building that has captured imaginations for centuries and which continues to do so.     Read More

Coastline of Naples
Once you've found the perfect holiday rental in Naples and are exploring the city, you might spend some time visiting any one of her many historic and beautiful castles.
