Murano Island in Venice, although classed as one island is actually a connected archipelago of seven islands! Narrow channels network through this closely knit cluster and are linked together by bridges. Murano is famous the world over for its stunning glassworks, especially their glass lamp production.

In 1291, the glass makers of Venice were sent to work only on Murano Island due to the fears of a fire outbreak in Venice city centre where there were many wooden bridges at risk.
