Trieste is an incredibly pretty seaside city in the north of Italy and there are plenty of beautiful buildings all around it but one of the most striking of them all is the Faro della Vittoria, or Victory Lighthouse. The tallest landmark in Trieste, it is built on Gretta Hill and located to the north of the city centre. Built to commemorate fallen soldiers during WWI, light the Gulf of Trieste and celebrate the annexation of the city to the Kingdom of Italy, it was begun in 1923, according to the design of Arduino Berlam.

Here are some of our members of staff's picks of their favourite spots in Italy and why they made them fall in love!

1. Trieste's Piazza Unità d'Italia

One of our staff members is from Venice, has family from the south of Italy and has spent his university years in Bologna but his pick is actually a magical corner of Trieste! Specifically, he singled out the Piazza Unità d'Italia, “because it is surrounded by beautiful buildings and...one side of the piazza is actually the sea, the Gulf of Trieste. So, especially at night, with the lights and everything, there is a really nice atmosphere.”

7. Zonin

Zonin 1821 is one of the most important Italian wine producers and distribute and market still and sparkling wines under the Zonin label from both the original estate in Veneto and the eight others located in Italy and abroad.

5. Nino Franco

Nino Franco is one of the oldest wineries in the Valdobbiadene area and was founded in 1919. Its owner was actually also one of the first winemakers to export Prosecco.

In the last post, we discussed the history and characteristics of Prosecco, trying to provide a greater base of information on the famous beverage that is both affordable and tasty. It is something that many of us consume on a regular basis without thinking on too deeply but, like any other wine, there is a lot more to learn about it and the best way is to visit a vineyard and taste some delicious wines for yourself! 1. Azienda Agricola Vettori

Azienda Agricola Vettori is a vineyard run by Arturo Vettori and produces two types of Prosecco and two kinds of white wine. Located in a sunny valley around 8km from the town of Conegliano in Veneto. It is a beautiful and historic estate that was re-established by the Vettori family in 1990 and its methods, grapes and wines were greatly increased at this time.
