The Colourful Harbour at Camogli
Camogli is a well-kept secret. Along the Italian Riviera near Genoa, it is a typical, but particularly charming, fishing village perched on a rocky outcrop. It has beautiful beaches, a small harbour full of colourful boats, shops and restaurants and has a distinctive seafront with brightly coloured houses decorated in trompe l'oeil designs. Known mostly to Italians but quite like the neighbouring, and more famous, town of Portofino. It is an authentic taste of Italian seaside life, a little off the beaten track, and far from the bustle of tourists. If you're after a holiday full of relaxation, culture, good food and beautiful scenery, this is just the place.     Read More

Villa Jovis, Capri
Villa Jovis is a site on Capri at the end of the Viale Amedeo Maiuri which houses the ruins of a villa from the first century B.C. which is attributed to the Roman Emperor, Tiberius. Perched on a cliff-top, it now provides visitors with astounding views but once afforded its occupants both privacy and security. Once the largest and most sumptuous of the twelve Roman villas on the island, it is now reduced to ruins, though a considerable percentage still survives. In fact, the amount of survival from the original complex means that the visitor centre has reliable reproductions of what it might have looked like.     Read More

Lake Reschen, Tower
Lake Reschen, in South Tyrol, Italy is an artificial lake located near the Reschen Pass, right by the border with Austria. Work was begun in 1940 but WWII and local protestations meant that it was not completed until 1950. The lake unifies two natural lakes, Reschensee and Mittersee, and submerged several villages, including Graun and Reschen. The thing that makes this site so remarkable, however, is the 14th century church tower which can still be seen, poking out of the water. At once eerie and beautiful, it is a remarkable thing to behold and surrounded by some of the world's most astounding scenery.     Read More

Fireworks at Festa del Redentore
A temporary bridge is constructed in Venice each year in July. This tradition goes back to the sixteenth century and is part of the Festa del Redentore, or Festival of the Redeemer. The bridge is built over the Giudecca Canal allowing access to the Church of the Redentore. This takes place on the third Saturday of July when there is a great party with feasting followed by fireworks and religious celebrations held on the Sunday with a gondola regata finishing off the weekend. Carnival, which takes place in February, is an event that is largely recreated for tourists but the Festa del Redentore is still an authentically local event and is very important to the people of Venice. Why not find a holiday rental in Venice and see it all for yourself?     Read More
