The Colourful Harbour at Camogli
Camogli is a well-kept secret. Along the Italian Riviera near Genoa, it is a typical, but particularly charming, fishing village perched on a rocky outcrop. It has beautiful beaches, a small harbour full of colourful boats, shops and restaurants and has a distinctive seafront with brightly coloured houses decorated in trompe l'oeil designs. Known mostly to Italians but quite like the neighbouring, and more famous, town of Portofino. It is an authentic taste of Italian seaside life, a little off the beaten track, and far from the bustle of tourists. If you're after a holiday full of relaxation, culture, good food and beautiful scenery, this is just the place.

Find a holiday rental in Liguria and experience the so-called “Gulf of Paradise” for yourself!

There's a vast choice of things to see and do in the area. If you're looking for something cultural, there are a number of churches in the area, including the 12th century Basilica Minore di Santa Maria Assunta in the port, the 16th century Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Wood built where the Madonna was seen in 1500 and the Parochial Church of San Rocco which is set with fantastic view across the Gulf. The small but fascinating medieval Dragonara Castle and Marine Museum are also both worth a visit on a casual day of strolling about the town.
Boats at Camogli
For those interested in something more active, there are scenic trails between Camogli and the Ruta area which take you along the stunning coastline. A particularly unique diving experience is also available nearby at San Fruttuoso Bay where there is a beautiful abbey and the submerged Christ of the Abyss, a statue by Guido Galletti from 1954 which sits at the bottom of the bay. Further diving opportunities abound in the grottoes in the area.

Or, if you are looking for a true holiday of relaxation, the lovely beaches are the perfect place to lay out and relax with plenty of bars and restaurants located nearby in the harbour on the seaside strip.

Life is slow-paced in Camogli, even if there is lots to do. Merely wandering through the streets, taking in the local buildings, walking past olive, citrus, palm, myrtle and laurel trees, cacti, lavender and rosemary bushes and absorbing the scenery is rewarding enough on its own.

For an authentic experience of Italy and a holiday full of lovely surroundings and relaxation, but not lacking in interest, there could be nowhere better! If you're thinking of a holiday in Liguria, this might be just the spot.
