Pecorino

We believe that eating local dishes is one of the most important things to do on holiday and one of the best ways to become more familiar with a culture and a place. This, of course, is especially true when it comes to Italy and to Tuscany. So many famous and beloved products and dishes come from this part of the world and eating is a key tourist activity if you have found a villa in Tuscany. There are endless delicious things to eat from this especially lush and fertile part of the country but one of the must-try products from Tuscany is Pecorino cheese.

Made from 100% sheep’s milk, there are six varieties of pecorino cheese that received Protected Designation of Origin status. Pecorino Romano is one of these and one of the most famous cheeses from Italy. Other pecorino cheese are produced on the islands of Sardinia and in the Tuscan Province of Grosseto. Dating back to Roman times, when it was a staple of the diet of soldiers at war, pecorino is now often an alternative to Parmesan.

Naples

Many people have certain preconceived ideas of Naples and, as a result, choose to pass it up when they plan a vacation in Campania. However, if you come prepared and if you prefer destinations that are not in the least touristy, then a holiday rental in Naples or a day-trip to the town while spending time in a villa in Campania is just the thing. With a long and rich history, a wonderful cultural heritage, an authenticity that can often be lost in other destinations in favour of making those new to a place more comfortable, an incredible culinary tradition to indulge in, friendly locals, and much more besides, Naples has more than enough to entice visitors and endear itself to them. Grand in a charmingly slightly dishevelled sort of way, utterly full of character, and a beating heart of Italian life and heritage, there is far more to Naples than travellers of decades past might lead you to believe...

If you have found a vacation rental in Emilia-Romagna and you are a foodie, you’re in luck as there are lots of delicious local treats, eateries, products, and more to get acquainted with over the course of your stay in the area. However, if you are seriously into food and you are looking for a rather unique foodie experience in Italy then you might want to head 20 minutes out of Bologna to FICO Eataly World, a food theme park located just outside of town on a 20-acre plot that was previously home to a fruit and vegetables market.

None of this, however, has to be simply passive. This is a theme park and there are various “rides” involved. Attend one of the 30 events or 50 classes per day that are held in various classrooms, theatres and learning facilities dotted around the park, ride around on three-wheeler bikes specially designed for the park by the Italian bicycle company Bianchi to explore the grounds, meet and pet the animals in their pens, take the mini train around, watch dogs go truffle hunting, go on a guided tour with one of the park’s “biodiversity ambassadors”, sample products, and much more besides. There is lots to do!     Read More

Baci
Italy is home to many delicious dishes, foods and products but one of the most recognisable food items of all has to be Baci. These chocolate “kisses” are one of the most famous sweets from Italy and can now be found in stores and supermarkets all over the world. Coming from Perugia, in the region of Umbria, they are made by Perugina, which is the leading chocolate brand in Italy. Made of chocolate and hazelnut, a popular combination of flavours in Italy, and wrapped in metallic blue and silver foil with stars and the logo on them, they are an iconic chocolate. If you have a holiday rental in Perugia and are visiting the area, you can visit their factory, and take a tour, drop into their chocolate museum, and take a chocolate-making class while you're there but, if you have found a vacation rental anywhere in Italy, you'll be able to readily get your hands on these tasty treats.
