Visit FICO Eataly World, Italy's Food Theme Park

If you have found a vacation rental in Emilia-Romagna and you are a foodie, you’re in luck as there are lots of delicious local treats, eateries, products, and more to get acquainted with over the course of your stay in the area. However, if you are seriously into food and you are looking for a rather unique foodie experience in Italy then you might want to head 20 minutes out of Bologna to FICO Eataly World, a food theme park located just outside of town on a 20-acre plot that was previously home to a fruit and vegetables market.

None of this, however, has to be simply passive. This is a theme park and there are various “rides” involved. Attend one of the 30 events or 50 classes per day that are held in various classrooms, theatres and learning facilities dotted around the park, ride around on three-wheeler bikes specially designed for the park by the Italian bicycle company Bianchi to explore the grounds, meet and pet the animals in their pens, take the mini train around, watch dogs go truffle hunting, go on a guided tour with one of the park’s “biodiversity ambassadors”, sample products, and much more besides. There is lots to do!
When it comes to foods, you have a great range of choice on offer, with something for every palate and budget, ranging from Michelin-starred favourites like Amerigo to street food and starting from just a few euros. Entry to the park itself is free with food, classes and events, and shopping coming out of your own pocket thereafter. Open seven days a week from 10am to 11pm and until midnight on Saturdays, there are shuttle buses running daily from Bologna central railway station (on the half hour on weekdays and every 20 minutes at weekends from €7 return), so it’s easy to plan a visit!

Be sure to keep an eye out on their website when planning your trip, as well, as plenty of special events are held throughout the year at the park. This includes all sorts of events and celebrations from food fairs dedicated to specific cuisines, markets selling more than just the regular vast array of food products (with clothing, local crafts and more) on offer in the stores at the park, special one-off events like making a 500 metre long pizza filled with characteristic ingredients from all over Italy, lovely picnics, drive-in movie screenings, special talks from esteemed guest speakers from the culinary world, and much more besides.
If you have found a vacation rental in Emilia-Romagna are spending time in Bologna and you love the food in Italy, then this is certainly a fascinating outing to consider popping into your holiday schedule. There are lots of delicious things to be tasted, lots of knowledge and foodie tips to take back home with you, plenty of places to buy foodie souvenirs (the best kind, in our humble opinion), and there is a wide range of things to see and do to keep everyone in your party happy and entertained all day long! So, what are you waiting for? Plan your trip today!
