No trip to Italy is complete without a stop off in the stunning capital city of Rome! It’s also the capital of its region, Latium. It’s the fourth largest city in Italy and the fourth most populated in Europe with over four million people living in Rome’s Metropolitan area. Most people might know of Rome as being the only city in the world which envelopes the world’s smallest state...Vatican City!

Rome city has had quite an exciting documented history that spans well over 2,500 years. It’s believed to have been founded in 753BC and is often referred to as ‘The Eternal City’. It is in Rome ancient centre, where Vatican City is now, where the foundation of the Roman Catholic religion took root and grew into the headquarters is today.

It’s also been one of the central birthplaces of western civilisation, much of which was borne during the dominant reign of the Roman Empire across Europe.

The vibrant region of Tuscany has everything the holiday maker could possibly want! Often cited as being a ‘Nation within a Nation’ because of the diverse selection of artistic, cultural, historical and gastronomic treats tucked into the region.

The central region of Abruzzo is an unruly mountainous land full of adventure and excitement! It borders Le Marche, Latium, Molise and has a coastline facing the Adriatic Sea.

This beautiful place is made up of four provinces; Chieti, L’Aquila, Pescara and Teramo that are home to some of the finest and best preserved medieval towns in the country!

Some of the nicest ones to visit are Castel del Monte and Santo Stefano di Sessanio which are located in Gran Sasso National Park at the foothills of the Apennines. L’Aquila is the name of the region’s capital and offers lots of cultural activities for the tourist to do. There are two climates here; warm and sunny near the coastline and cold and rainy as you travel further inland up the mountains because incoming warm air is forced to rise up and form dark clouds, which then produces rain!

This region is the third most populated in Italy and has the second largest economy. It borders with Tuscany, Umbria, Le Marche, Abruzzo, Molise and Campania.

The stunning region of Umbria is located in central Italy. It’s the only region in this section of the peninsula to have no coastline but there’s plenty to entertain tourists in spite of that! Umbria is bordered by Tuscany, Le Marche and Latium and is made up of only two provinces; Perugia and Terni. There is a wealth of superb holiday rentals with swimming pools in Umbria to choose from if you wish to add a little extra luxury to your vacation!

Umbria gets its name from the ancient Umbri tribe that once thrived here before the Romans invaded and eventually conquered the land. Today it has established a big name in the agricultural market, exporting vast quantities of wine, olive oil and tobacco. The capital city is called Perugia which offers visitors a rich archive of tradition, history, art and culture to immerse themselves in.
