Those who book a vacation rental in Sicily will be sure to dive enthusiastically into the culinary scene and heritage of the region. Sicily is full of delicious things to eat that many of us are familiar with, especially as many Italian-Americans claim Sicilian heritage and have popularised dishes through film and television.
Desserts from Sicily, in particular, are well-known and well-loved such as cannoli. For those, however, who are kids at heart or who can never wait until dessert time, you might be happy to note that, in Sicily, ice-cream is on the breakfast menu!
This dish is a Brioche con Gelato/Brioscia cu’ tuppu con gelato (brioche with ice-cream) and is a traditional Sicilian treat. There is also usually an array of flavours to choose from including favourites like stracciatella, chocolate, pistachio, and more. Lemon granita, a kind of textured sorbet-like frozen dessert can be swapped in instead for a slightly lighter experience. If you're really going all in, however, you might be able to avail of some cream, or panna, on top if offered by the shop.
Usually costing just a couple of euros and paired with a coffee, this is a uniquely Sicilian way to start the day and a perfect start to the day while on vacation.
