Italy is beautiful in Spring; the countryside is lush, the cities less full, the queues outside tourist attractions smaller, the temperatures more pleasant, and the prices of things lower. It is a great time to plan a vacation to most parts of the country, however, there are some destinations that are particular lovely in Spring, at their best at this time of year. We began outlining some of these spots in the last post and will continue to in the next but here are two more to keep in mind...
3. The Dolomites
In Winter, the Dolomites are an excellent spot for skiing and, in Summer, the sun burns down on everything. During the Spring, the warmer weather that doesn't turn to overly hot is perfect for hiking and exploring the area. Wildflowers line the mountain paths and you can take in sweeping wonderful views out and across the incredibly lush green landscape below, with snow-capped peaks towering overhead in the distance.

Maggiore, Como, Garda: Italy's Northern Lakes District is incredibly popular in the Summer but a good deal calmer and more appealing in Spring. In April and May, it is pleasantly warm enough for enjoying water-sports and sitting out and enjoying the views but it is also less full of tourist crowds and the gardens, landscape, and famous villas are all abloom making these already magical destinations all the more stunning. This is when the lakes are at their absolute loveliest and it must be seen with one's own eyes; utterly refreshing and unforgettable.
