Cilento is a region of Campania and is part of the national park of Parco Nazionale del Cilento, Vallo di Diano e Alburni along with the Vallo di Diano and the Monti Alburni. The park was actually founded in 1991 in order to protect the territory of Cilento from the area being built up or from being damaged by mass tourism and was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998.

For divers, it is a must-see destination but one cave, in particular, is best seen above the water. The answer to Capri’s famous Blue Grotto, the water is so utterly and otherworldly blue that it is hard to believe and it glitters beautifully.
Another highlight is the amazing Blood Cave, in which red algae makes the cave walls appear that they are dripping blood.
On land, there is also quite the range of truly spectacular natural wonders just waiting to be discovered: such as the Natural Arch, the areas that are perfect for rock-climbing, the hiking trails and over 100km of stunning beaches, many of which are blue flag awarded beaches and are also ideal spots to visit from April all the way until October.
