Ponza is a lower-key and more affordable island destination that is lesser-known beyond Italy but has been the location of choice of Romans for a very long time now. It attracts the rich and famous and for good reason. Pretty, authentic and swathed in both manmade and natural beauty, it is a perfect holiday destination. Just find a vacation rental in Latium and even take a day trip to this “hidden” gem for yourself but remember that it will be most expensive and religiously flocked to by Romans in July and August. May, June and September are great times of year to visit, when it will be less full of local tourists.
One of the things that is most attractive about Ponza is her selection of stunning beaches and there are some seriously great ones to choose from. The most popular beach is Chiaia di Luna, a pale crescent of sand framed by towering creamy-coloured rocky cliffs and lapped by aquamarine waters.

Accessible by foot from the town's port, it is one of the first beaches you'll encounter and an excellent choice. Highly rated by visitors, it is a firm favourite.
The beach of Lucia Rosa is another popular choice and is most busy towards the end of the day, when all the romantics on the island flock to catch the incredible sunsets that it boasts. Fèola Cove is beloved for its natural shallow pools. Frontone Beach is a hipper location and is where head by boat in the early-evening to enjoy an aperitivo. Near Le Forna, are the Piscine Naturali, which are some lovely natural pools ideal for bathing and enjoying the sunshine.
The whole island is a seaside dream, however. There are a wealth of diving companies that offer equipment for rent and you can explore the other (potentially more interesting) side of Ponza: under the surface of the water, where there are ancient Roman ships, sunken World War II steamship remnants and a diverse wildlife to discover.

Or, if you prefer staying above water, there are plenty of opportunities to sail around Ponza and the other Pontine islands and enjoy a taste of the good life. Although, you could argue that everything about Ponza is the good life.
