Angelo Azzurro
If you have found a vacation rental in Milan, an apartment in Rome or a villa in Florence and are planning on partying in Italy, we have the drink for you!

The Angelo Azzurro, or Blue Angel, is an Italian cocktail that is beloved but a little lesser-known. While the Americano, Bellini, Rossini and Negroni are famous stalwarts of bars all over the globe, the Angelo Azzurro is more something that the seasoned cocktail drinker might order. The origins of the drink have become a little obscured by time. Of the different origin stories, the most accepted is that it is a variant of the Blue Lagoon and was created in the fifties or sixties.
It was almost exclusively only available in Italy in the past and became especially popular in Discothèques in the nineties. Today, you can see it served in more and more places all over the world, despite its more obscure status.

The origin of the name of this drink is also uncertain. Two theories prevail: 1. The strong drink made people feel as though they were flying and it was a bright blue because of the use of the Blue Curaçao. Ergo, “Blue Angel”. 2. That is was an homage to the movie of the same name with Marlene Dietrich.

Whatever the history of the drink or its name, it is still an Instagram-worthy cocktail that packs a serious punch – maybe only partake on a pretty full stomach! Try it the next time you holiday in Italy. Or, if you want to make it at home, follow this easy recipe:
