If you are a Pink Floyd fan that has found a vacation rental in Rome and are planning a trip between now and the 20th of May, then you need to check out “The Pink Floyd Exhibition: their mortal remains.” This incredible retrospective takes you on an audio-visual story right from birth of one of the world's most innovative and influential bands in history arrives in Rome through a 50 year journey to becoming on of the most iconic rock groups of all time.
Originally conceived by Storm Thorgerson, the exhibition was developed by Aubrey "Po" Powell of Hipgnosis and Nick Mason, the official Exhibition Consultant for Pink Floyd, and features plenty of heretofore unseen objects collected over the duration of the band’s existence. Promoted by the Roma Capitale Assessorato alla Crescita Culturale, it is the first exhibition to take place at the museum under its new management, Palaexpo, after debuting in London's Victoria and Albert Museum earlier in the year; a run that was hugely successful.
Described as “stunning”, “a real feast for the senses” and “almost as good as seeing the band live”, it offers an incredible museum experience and an unmissable fan experience. Arranged according to chronological order, the exhibition brings visitors on a journey through the history of the band, guided by recordings of former and current members – including Syd Barrett, Roger Waters, Richard Wright, Nick Mason and David Gilmour – who discuss their memories and experiences. At the end of the whole thing is the Performance Zone, an immersive audio-visual space that includes the recreation of the very last performance of all four members of the band at Live 8 in 2005.
The whole thing lasts around two hours and is a perfect way for a rock and roll fan to take a break from the hot streets of Rome for a little while and become immersed in the music and careers of this iconic band.
