What Google Thinks You Should Do With 24 Hours In Venice I

Murano
Most of us don't buy guidebooks anymore. Instead, when we plan to visit a place, we search hashtags on Instagram and have a quick google. Compiling data from lots of places, as they are wont to do, Google can actually plan your itineraries for you. In fact, if you search destinations, they will suggest a variety of itineraries, based on the length of time you have in a given place. If you have found a vacation rental in Veneto and are wondering where to start and what to do, here's what Google suggests if you have just 24 hours in the city.

1. Head to Murano (Estimated time to be spent here: 40 minutes)

Murano Island in Venice is a connected archipelago of seven islands with narrow channels networking through them and bridges linking them together. Murano is famous the world over for its stunning glassworks, particularly the glass lamps made there.
Rialto Bridge
There is even a Murano Glass Museum where you can learn the fascinating history of Murano Glass and how it became famous as being the best in the world.

2. Next, head to the iconic Rialto Bridge (Journey from previous location: 30 minutes by ferry. Estimated time to be spent here: 45 minutes.)

The Grand Canal is the biggest waterway or “road” in Venice and one of the most beautiful and is spanned by the Rialto Bridge, among others. The oldest bridge crossing the Grand Canal, it links the districts of San Marco and San Polo and was originally a wooden bridge. Between 1588 and 1591 an architect called Antonio da Ponte designed and rebuilt the Rialto Bridge in stone, to prevent collapse and it bears a close resemblance to its wooden predecessor. It is quite the beauty and now one of the most iconic and photographed sites in Venice.
St Mark's
3. Grand Canal (Journey from previous location: 5 minutes by foot. Estimated time to be spent here: 40 minutes.)

While you're at the bridge, Google suggests you check out the Grand Canal itself, though it is likely that you would have had to traverse it anyway. You can use the water buses and taxis to merely get from A to B or take a gondola (bear in mind that they can be pricy) or a tour boat to really have a chance to take it all in.

4. Saint Mark's Basilica (Journey from previous location: 15 minutes by foot. Estimated time to be spent here: 60 minutes.)

St Mark's Basilica, is the city's cathedral. Originally built inside the complex of the Doge's Palace in 828 to house the relics of St. Mark the Evangelist, it was burned to the ground in 976 during an uprising and rebuilt twice. A completely new basilica complex was then built and consecrated in 1094. This is the building that we know today. It became the city's cathedral in the nineteenth century and is one of the best-regarded examples of Byzantine architecture in the world. It is particularly well-known for its opulent and gilded interiors.

There is only room to delve into half of Google's list here so read on to the next article for the rest of their suggestions on what to do in Venice in a day!
