Ravello is a southern Italian town on the famous Amalfi Coast, perched high above sparkling azure seas and with stunning views across the water. It has long captured the hearts of many and is often included in lists of best holiday destinations, lesser-known Italian gems and beautiful towns. In fact, many of the town’s biggest fans have been artists and writers, such as D.H. Lawrence and Virginia Woolf, who became so enamoured with the place that they have spent extended periods in the town or have lived there. Why were they so taken by the town? Well, it offers the perfect mix of culture, relaxation, delicious food, luxurious accommodation and stunning views. In fact, Gore Vidal once described the panorama here as “the most beautiful in the world.” If you want to take in the most beautiful panorama in the world for yourself, just find a vacation rental in Campania and spend some time in the stunning town of Ravello.

Ravello is a refined, polished town almost entirely dedicated to tourism and is becoming increasingly popular as a wedding venue. It’s best known for its ravishing gardens and stupendous views but there is much more to it than that. Those words also fail to convey how beautiful the town actually is. Villa Cimbrone, is a massive open space comprised of lush gardens, fountains, temples, and assorted follies that overlook the sea in the distance. It was carefully restored by an English lord and is particularly well kept as a result. You can also take in outdoor concerts on the premises, if you’re luck. What could be more ideal than taking in the views, sipping on a cold drink and enjoying the music and setting with loved ones?

Another beautiful spot is Villa Rufolo, a former watchtower that is characterised by a massive main tower and features an important chapel and a Moorish cloister with Arabic decorative elements. Outside, the true triumph of the villa can be found; the promontory garden that is filled with fragrant blossoms and was once beloved by Wagner. Like the Villa Cimbrone, this garden is now used fro performances and is the site of the famous Ravello music festival each year. On Tuesday mornings, be sure to drop by the lively street market in Piazza Duomo, where you’ll find wine, mozzarella and olive oil, as well as discounted designer clothes. Another highlight is the duomo, erected in 1086, with its splendid, triple arched marble entrance and grand bronze door by Parisano da Trani. The duomo also is home to a museum which houses that marble bust of Sigligaida Rufolo, widely considered one of the most beautiful works of 13th century art.
If you are spending time in Campania, this town is a must-see, literally. You really must see the great views and beauty of the town to believe it.
