Inside Castello Estense, tourists can walk around the gothic styled rooms, one of which houses an intriguing small scale model of the castle made of wood. Dare to venture down into the dark dungeons which may have once housed a gruesome torture chamber!
On the first floor of Castello Estense are the courtrooms were trials were held and an intricately designed loggia leading out to the fragrant Garden of Oranges! See inside the elegantly decorated Ducal Chapel here with its spectacularly painted fresco ceiling depicting the four Evangelists.
Then head to the colourful Chamber of Dawn with incredible frescoes adorning every inch of the walls and ceiling here, telling legendary stories of Roman and Greek folklore! These are just a few of the many wonderful rooms open to visitors in Castello Estense!

Summer opening times are from June 1st to August 31st from 9am to 7pm. Entry is €6 for adults and €1 for children under 12.
Winter opening times are from September 1st to December 31st and from January 1st to May 31st from 9.30am to 5.30pm.
