The mainland of Italy is a paradise of culture, history, and endless attractions but if you’re a holiday maker with a taste for the salty seas then why not plan a superb marine themed holiday travelling around the coast to visit its many incredible islands? Book into a luxury villa in Sardinia and start your adventurous island travels from there!

Some of these Mediterranean gems are clustered together off the coast of some regions such as the Tuscan archipelago, the Aeolian Islands off the northeast coast of Sicily and the Pontine Islands off the coast of Campania.
The Aeolian Islands
Sardinia and Sicily especially have lots of quaint little islands and islets dotted around their stunning coastlines which is amusingly ironic as they are islands themselves! Sicily is in fact, the largest island in the Mediterranean and the most southerly region of Italy.

The lagoon city of Venice encompasses 118 islands in its municipality and visiting several of them would fill up a few fascinating days of touring this enchanting area of the eastern Italian coast. Some of the larger and more popular islands of Italy include Procida Island in the Gulf of Naples with its charming fishing town called Marina di Corricella.

Stromboli Island, part of the Aeolian Islands off Sicily has an active volcano on it and two enchanting little towns. This is a perfect place to visit that lies quietly off the beaten tourist track.

Another peaceful place to visit is Maddalena Island, the largest of the La Maddalena Islands off the coast of Sardinia. The golden sandy beaches here are like something out a fairy tale! Other island spotlights include Grado Island with a beautiful town of the same name on it which offers tourists lots of lovely things to see and do. It’s located off the coast of Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Gaiola Island, located off the coast of Naples is home to an underwater marine park and would be a perfect spot to dive into some refreshing snorkelling or scuba diving for a few hours.Go island hopping around Italy on your next sunny vacation here and experience the time of your life!
