Begin your tour with a few hours walking around the spooky Criminal Museum in Rome. This museum, founded in the 1800s was once a prison and now is a public space made up of three sections.

One section concentrates on the categories of crime such as theft or assault. Another section looks at methods of investigation to solve a crime and the third section displays all the gory details regarding the punishment of crimes.

This torture section uses life size models to demonstrate how these terrifying machines were used so if you have a weak stomach, you might want to skip this part!
Rome's cappuchin crypt
The Criminal Museum is located on Via del Gonfalone in Rome and admission is only €2.

Another interesting attraction worth visiting is the Cappuchin Crypt in the city. Located under the Santa Maria della Immacolata Concezione church, this unusual crypt contains the skeletal remains of over 4,000 capuchin monks which are arranged in a bizarre decorative fashion.

Animal lovers might like a visit to the Torre Argentina Roman Cat Sanctuary. These sanctuaries are housed in ancient temples across the city where volunteers come to feed and look after the large numbers of stray cats in the city.

Donations are greatly appreciated and help these kind people to neuter, feed and heal the stray cats that roam the streets.
