The Torre della Ghirlandina is the adjoining cathedral bell tower, standing tall over Modena at a height of 86 metres. Five floors high, the tower began construction in 1179 and was furnished on top with a decorative octagonal cusp, designed by Arrigo da Campione.
Piazza Grande, which is home to the 12th century cathedral and its tower is quadrangular in shape and changed little since its construction many years ago.
