The entire grounds of Villa Adriana in Tivoli include over 30 ancient buildings which were used as theatres, libraries, temples and servant living quarters. Greek and Egyptian architectural styles feature heavily throughout and are a beautiful sight to behold.
One of the best preserved areas of the villa grounds are a large pool and grotto which are lined with some remaining Corinthian statues. Archaeologists have discovered a fascinating network of underground tunnels which were used by servants to transport food and materials from different areas of Villa Adriana.
Walk around the spectacular Maritime theatre here; a unique columned building which had a built in moat surrounding the circular island stage in the middle. Without a doubt, the architectural feats achieved in the construction of Villa Adriana are truly breath-taking!
