Basilicata has a small but stunning coastline which is filled with colourful marine life that thrives in its crystal clear waters. Relax on a warm sandy beach here or engage in some fun water sports like surfing or sea kayaking! Spend a day strolling around the coastal town of Maratea where there is a superb range of shops and night-life venues.

Begin a magical evening with a delicious meal here overlooking the glittering sea. Try speciality dishes like pasta served with a spicy hot pepper sauce with fresh fish or ‘Ciammotta’ which is fried potatoes with peppers and eggplant baked in a rich tomato sauce.
Coastal town of Maratea
Be a witness to some magical summer festivals here in Basilicata! See one of the oldest folk festivals in Italy which takes place in Accettura called ‘The Marriage of the Trees’. This is an ancient harvest ceremony that brings together the union of a male oak tree and a female holly tree which are placed together and carried around the town in the hope of bringing a great yield in the coming year.

Or check out the popular Pollino music festival during the first week of August that attracts over 100,000 music lovers to Italy’s largest National park. There’s also an incredible beach festival that takes place at Metaponto in mid-August which is worth attending.
