Beatification Of Pope John Paul II

Pope John Paul II
An event is happening this year in Rome that we may not see again in our lifetimes. The Beatification of Pope John Paul II is happening on May 1st, 2011 and estimates up to two million pilgrims are expected to attend. There are no tickets or admission, so do not fall for any scams that may be targeting pilgrims, though there is a special JPII Pass that includes public transportation and many other perks.

The ceremony will be held in Saint Peter's Square at 10am on May 1st. Even if you arrive late and are not able to make it into the Square itself, large video screens are supposed to be erected so you may still view the ceremony. Pope John Paul II's remains will be on display and any who wish to view the body will be allowed to, though the wait will be long. The day before a prayer vigil will be held in Rome's Circus Maximus beginning at 8pm.
His Eminence Cardinal Agostino Vallini will be leading the vigil, and the Pope will be attending by video feed. On May 2nd a special mass of Thanksgiving will be held in Saint Peter's Square in the morning.

If you are not able to attend, a Live Web Feed has been announced.

It is a good assumption that finding lodging in Rome itself will be difficult, but if you are interested in renting a villa in another town and taking a train into Rome please contact our villa specialists today!
