Description
In 1996 we moved to the Crete Senesi and we fell in love with this farmhouse Etruscan origins, medieval mill, peace and tranquillity. That’s why we decided to share it with our guests and their four-legged friends.
The farm keeps the whole family busy: Alessandro (biologist, nature guide and Sommelier), Elisa who looks after the administration, Mauro and Paola, retired but full time busy on the farm. And we hope that in the future even Emma and Guido will give us a helping hand.
We produce vegetables and fruit, olive oil and truffles from organic agriculture.
For our guests we organize a rich programme of initiatives discovering the colours and flavours of the Crete, wine tasting in our cosy winery and excursions by bike guided by Alessandro who is fond of cycling.

Agriturismo la Papessa is a nice stone building with WiFi internet, pool and air conditioning. The country resort has been designed with a total of 11 separate apartments. The property can accommodate up to 60 people comfortably.
What to Expect
When you arrive you will be greeted by the owner or manager where you’ll find a lovely clean well-maintained property with views of the hills ideal for a splendid holiday in Tuscany. For your pleasure you will find a pool where you can relax while enjoying a nice cold beverage after a busy day of shopping. For your pleasure, on the grounds there is a barbecue grill and patio. A lot of people traveling with friends prefer a multi-unit holiday home where they can spend time together in the common areas, such as the pool or garden, but still have their own private living quarters with bedroom and bathroom. In addition, each apartment has its own kitchen with plenty of utensils, tableware and cutlery.

Ancient building comprising 4 apartments (one is occupied by the property owners) situated in the historical centre of the medieval town of Certaldo Alto. All of the 3 units have been recently restored and offer nicely furnished and cozy interiors. At their arrival, guests staying at Certaldo will be given a permission allowing them to drive to their apartment and make use of a parking situated in an internal courtyard near the apartments. During the month of July (approx. 10 days) there is a very nice “festival” (“named Mercantia”) taking place in the historical centre of Certaldo Alto (the oldest part of the town), where local artists and artisans show their works until late at the night. During this period of the year the access to the internal courtyard for parking is not possible.
Distances: the centre of Certaldo Basso with all kind of shops and train station (with trains to Florence and Siena) 500 m away (the town is also accessible by a funicular leaving every 15 minutes - duration of the trip 1 minute), Florence 40 km away, Siena 35 km, the renowned town of San Gimignano 9 km away, Volterra 50 km, Pisa 55 km.
At guests disposal: guests have access to a beautiful tower (common room) overlooking the roofs of the ancient town and offering splendid panoramic views over the surrounding landscape and San Gimignano in the distance. This tower is furnished with tables and chairs and in summer it also provides sun-beds. Wi-fi internet access (free of charge). All of the apartments provide mosquito nets and fans in the bedrooms.

You will find the Agriturismo Le Balze in the heart of the Alto Valdarno, at the foot of Pratomagno, and 2 km from the small village of Castelfranco di Sopra. All around is a natural landscape of rare beauty, which will captivate you from the first moment, characterised by the presence of the 'Balze', secular examples of erosion that over the years have formed towers and rocky blades that rise majestically in the valley bottom.
In about 30 minutes by car you will be able to reach Florence, the cradle of the Renaissance. City of the ancient Medici family, a heritage not to be missed, with its artistic masterpieces, the colourful marble of the churches and the lofty architecture, the ancient bridges over the Arno river and the majestic noble palaces with their immense gardens adorned with fountains, sculptures, grottoes, staircases and paths.
The villa is divided into three independent flats, in one of which on the ground floor there is a double bedroom with a bathroom suitable for persons with disabilities. The structure was born from the recovery of old farm outbuildings close to the main house where the owners live, who will be, albeit in a discreet manner, a point of reference for all your needs.
The owners, thanks to careful renovation using traditional materials such as wood, terracotta and stone and comfortable furnishings, have ensured that the villa is perfect for spending a comfortable and restful holiday.
Villa Le Balze overlooks on one side a wooden porch, equipped with table and chairs and perfect for your dinners and evenings in company, and the lush garden where you will have a barbecue and a table tennis. On the other side, the house overlooks the swimming pool area (size 6x12 m, depth 1.40 m - open from 10 May to 15 September), which is completely fenced off and for the exclusive use of guests.
At Agriturismo Le Balze you can taste and purchase excellent wine and extra-virgin olive oil, vegetables, fruit, and all the products of the farm. In addition, on the ground floor of the house where the owners live you will find a small restaurant (maximum 25 seats), open both to the public and to guests of the villa. If you decide to spend your holiday at Villa Leopoldina, you can stay in a historic building, a splendid example of a typical Tuscan house designed in the 18th century by the architects of Grand Duke Leopold of Lorraine, with the characteristic four overlapping arches on the façade.
