While there aren't all that many traditional tourist sights or monuments on Ponza, Italy there are things to see and do on this beautiful island. A long time favourite holiday destination of Romans, it has a lot to offer and makes for a wonderful spot to vacation. Just find a holiday rental in Latium and then spend even just a day discovering this gem for yourself.

One of the things that is most attractive about the island is the selection of stunning beaches and there are some seriously great ones to choose from such as Chiaia di Luna, a pretty pale crescent of sand lapped by aquamarine waters and Lucia Rosa with its incredible sunsets.

The whole island is a perfect seaside destination where there are a wealth of diving companies to choose from and a seabed lined with ancient Roman ships, sunken World War II steamship remnants and a diverse wildlife to discover.

Genoa is the capital of the region of Liguria and located on the Gulf of Genoa, along the Italian Riviera, in the Ligurian Sea. Historically, it was one of the most important ports on the Mediterranean and has been nicknamed “la Superba” ("the Proud one") due to its glorious past and impressive landmarks. It is an incredibly picturesque and beautiful city that is rich in history, art and culture, with an old town that is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

As the sixth-largest city in Italy it is, by no means, unknown but trails behind the likes of Rome, Florence, Venice and Milan in the minds of international tourists. However, we think you should make it your next holiday destination. Here are ten reasons why you should find a villa in Liguria and visit Genoa.

3. It Is Home To One Of Europe's Loveliest Public Parks

While Italy might be more famous for her ancient, medieval and Renaissance artworks, the lineage of the production of great works of art in Italy continues right up to the present day. Pisa may be known for its medieval architecture but it is also home to Keith Haring's “Tuttomondo” mural, his last public work.

Mount Vesuvius is, perhaps, the most famous volcano in the world. Located in the southern Italian region of Campania, this volcanic cone shaped mountain is still active and has erupted many times over the last few centuries. While it is still active and considered a relatively dangerous volcano, it is not at all unsafe to visit and we would highly recommend it! Just find a villa in Campania and pay a visit.
