If you ever happen to find yourself staying in a vacation rental, in Turin, make sure you take the time to visit the Piazza Castello, known as the heart of the city. The Palazzo Reale dominates the piazza but it also houses the Palazzo Madama, Teatro Regio di Torino (Opera House), Biblioteca Reale (Royal Library) and the Torre Littoria (a leftover from the fascist era). Concerts and public events are often held in the square and it connects neatly with the nearby shopping districts.

The Piazza Castello was established in the 14th century by princes of the House of Savoy who wanted a space near the city walls and castle that could host dynastic events.

Located centrally in the regal city of Turin, the Palazzo Madama (or Palazzo Madama e Casaforte degli Acaja), sitting in Piazza Castello and surrounded by the likes of the Palazzo Reale, is a must-see. Not only is it a fascinating structure in its own right but it houses curiosities that really make the experience. If you're staying in a holiday rental nearby, make it a point to stop by.

The two towers above the building pre-date Christianity and the foundations in the basement and the remains of the praetorian door are Roman. Four turrets project from the current structure which are the remnants of the castle that was built there in the 14th century.

La Notte della Taranta is an annual music festival held in Salento, Apulia (or Puglia) and is the largest music festival in Italy. Established in 1998, it has grown and grown into the event it is today which has a fantastic international reputation and draws huge crowds each year.

Events take place in a variety of locations in the municipalities of the province of Lecce from the 5th of August culminating in a giant closing concert in Melpignano on August 22nd .

Supposedly founded by Ancient Greek hero Diomedes after the Trojan war and birth-place of famous Ancient Roman poet Horace, the town of Venosa in the Basilicata region is an architectural and historical gem with ancient origins just waiting to be explored. Why not find yourself a luxury villa nearby and make a day-trip to the quaint town?

The name Venosa apparently comes from a dedication to the Goddess of Love, Aphrodite (Venus to the Romans), to appease her after Troy's defeat in the war. A Roman colony was later established in the area in 291 BC and became inextricably connected to the empire when the Appian Way was extended there in 190 BC.

Why not find a great holiday rental in the Emilia-Romagna area and take a day to explore the streets of Bologna?

There may be lots to do in the area but if you find yourself in Bologna, find time to wander the city centre. The town is circular in plan with the iconic Due Torri, or Two Towers, at the centre and streets radiating outwards to what exists of the city walls and twelve medieval city gates. Two interconnected sites in the area, the Piazza Delle Sette Chiese and Corte Isolani, make for an especially nice stroll – just watch out for the cobblestones if someone in your party is wearing high heels!
