Welcome back to another Villa Spotlight! Each week we scour our thousands of villas to highlight a property we like or think you would love. This week we look towards Campania, at the Villa Il Giardino near Positano. Located on the very popular Amalfi Coast and renowned for its gorgeous scenery, both natural and man-made. You have to see the collection of sea side villages built into the cliffs soaring high above the water, and the bright vibrant colors that seem to be painted over the towns themselves. If you want to have a true Italian experience, and want to pass the Tuscan scene you will not regret finding a perfect villa rental in Campania!

Villa Il Giardino is a gorgeous four bedroom rental that sits high in the village of Positano. Positano is a great destination for tourists, being the heart of the Amalfi Coast and easily accessible by rail and road both, and from the harbour there are ferries that will take you to the Islands of Capri and Ischia. From the villa there are some great options for day trips to Naples, Pompeii and Herculaneum, Paestum, not to mention all the towns along the Amalfi Coast.

Today in our Villa Spotlight we take a look at the Campania region of Italy, famous for its delicious foods and amazing views. Campania is the second most populous of the regions and contains more to see than a single vacation can provide: Naples, Pompeii, Herculaneum, Mount Vesuvius, the Amalfi Coast, isle of Capri and more! The name itself dates back from Roman times where it was called Campania felix, or 'fertile countryside', a name still suitable for the region today! The villa we look at today in our Spotlight is Villa Cetara (or simply Amalfi), a large 8 bedroom villa that sleeps up to 16 people. This villa truly has to be seen to be believed!

The Pontifical Commission of Sacred Art has discovered a new sixth century fresco of Saint Paul while restoring the Catacombs of San Gennaro in Naples. The fresco is part of a larger fresco that has not held up to the ravages of 1500 years as well as the image of St Paul. The Commission thinks that an image of Saint Peter would have been adjacent to the St Paul figure. The story was published in L'Osservatore Romano.

The reasons to travel to Italy are many and varied.  Whether it is art, history, culture, architecture, pilgrimages, or simple sightseeing there is one thing that all travelers will become thankful for within a day: the food!  While many things overlap, each region of Italy has its own particular flavor and style based on local traditions and local ingredients.  During your stay in a vacation rental in Campania you can shop the markets for freshly caught fish and ripe, local produce to prepare your own meals in the style of the region!

One of the most well known products of Campania is the Neopolitan pizza margherita.

While conflicting stories exist, the most popular legend of the creation involves Queen Margherita of the Kingdom of Italy being served a simple pizza with tomato sauce, basil and mozzarella (designed as to resemble the Italian flag with red, white and green).  The simple classic recipe has bore her name ever since.
