While many travel restrictions have now been lifted worldwide, those planning a vacation in Italy this summer might be wondering about if there are any entry and travel requirements in place in the country that they need to be aware of. Italy was the first European country to have recorded instances of COVID-19 in early 2020 and throughout the pandemic it is a destination in which some of the strictest safety countermeasures were put in place and maintained to fight the virus. These various measures and restrictions were also kept in place for longer and up until more recently than in many other places throughout the globe. As the majority of the other EU countries have ended their entry rules and due to the low infection rates and high vaccination rates that have been recorded in Italy as of recently, the government has decided to follow suit. Italy now joins 19 other EU countries who have already dropped all of their restrictions including Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czechia, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Sweden, and Switzerland. So, from tomorrow – the 1st of June 2022 – many of the last of these remaining restrictions and requirements will be lifted, just in time for the beginning of the summer 2022 holiday season.
