A view of the Costa Rei in Sardinia

Muravera is a village in the south of Sardinia that is a gorgeous coastal gem boasting an ancient history and some of the best beaches throughout all of Italy. With a tourism season (largely dictated by when it is warm enough for most visitors to brave dipping a toe in the sea) that stretches from the area’s beloved citrus festival in April to the beginning of Autumn as the cooler winter months approach, there are plenty of opportunities to plan a perfect getaway in this glorious part of the world. And, if you’re merely coming for the lovely landscapes, excellent hiking, and smaller tourist crowds, then you could readily book a villa in Muravera even outside this period. However, if you have chosen to book a vacation in Sardinia for her famously brilliant beaches then you really will find yourself spoiled for choice if you come to this part of the island. While Sardinia, as a whole, has lots of great beaches to choose from, the area in and around Muravera is home to some of the most picturesque strands that you could ask for, all picked out in stunning jewel tones. The Costa Rei, a 10km long stretch of beaches and resorts near Muravera that boasts a range of both free and private beaches, is a particularly spectacular part of this coastline and boasts strikingly clear waters and perfect white sandy beaches. So, pack your swimsuit and grab a towel and then come spend glorious days strolling along the beach, splashing in the water, snorkelling and getting the most out of those crystal-clear seas, making memories with your friends and/or family or even your beloved pet, taking incredible photos, bird-watching, and much more besides at the incredible beaches of Muravera on your next holiday in Sardinia!

Costa Rei, strand

Piscina Rei

One of the best beaches along the aforementioned Costa Rei, Piscina Rei, like many beaches in this part of the world, is surrounded by the green hills and the outstanding unspoiled natural beauty of Sardinia. Often featured on lists of the best beaches in Italy, Piscina Rei is truly idyllic: a long and velvety white strand of powder-soft sand framed by junipers, white sea daffodils, rich green Mediterranean shrubbery, lapped by azure waters. It also boasts beach bars, beach equipment rentals, and easy access to the various services and amenities afforded by the nearby resort town of Costa Rei. Those aforementioned azure waters are also clear and shallow, thus making it a particularly attractive option to families and those with little ones to worry about. Of course, those without kids in their party and those of all ages can enjoy this gem as well while on vacation in Muravera, especially if they are interested in snorkelling or diving as it is an ideal spot to do just that.

Tiliguerta Dog Beach

With currently over 160 of our vacation rentals in Sardinia being listings that allow guests to bring a pet along, the Tiliguerta Dog Beach at Muravera is well worth mentioning, especially as it is one of the only fully-equipped dog beaches on the entire island. So, if you want to bring a furry friend with you to Sardinia to enjoy the stunning coastline together then just tick the, “Pets ok,” option in our advanced filters while searching properties and then set aside time for an outing to this special beach. With lots of other dogs around and all the facilities you will need for your pet’s comfort and care, this is a brilliant place for any pup to have an amazing day and for you to enjoy loads as well.

Spiaggia di Feraxi

Spiaggia Feraxi

Spiaggia Feraxi is another beach in this part of Sardinia that has some rather unique and distinct selling points. Firstly, it is rarely overly crowded compared to many other beaches in the area, even during the high season. Secondly, it is a rather windy spot, which makes it one of the best places to enjoy surfing and kite-surfing along this coastline. And, thirdly, just behind the beach, past the Mediterranean greenery and inland sand dunes, you’ll find the Stagno Feraxi, a pond that is known to be a flamingo breeding ground. Those, therefore, who have a penchant for a bit of bird-watching and sighting these magnificent pink creatures, in particular, should make a point to come and visit Spiaggia Feraxi to try and spot some while enjoying a day at the beach! With facilities such as beach bars, umbrella and sun-lounger rentals, and parking, the beach also has all of the necessary amenities to make your day at the sea more comfortable, especially for those who have found a villa in Muravera or a holiday rental in Sardinia and are travelling as a family or with children.

Spiaggia di Portu de S’Illixi

Spiaggia di Porto De S’Illixi

If you’re interested in getting more off the beaten path, then this looker is one of the best choices in the region. You can find it by following the signs for Capo Ferrato and Feraxi and then heading down an unpaved road just past Capo Ferrato, where you can see a bend to the right with a short slope upwards to a spot in which cars can be left. You might even find other cars there but usually not large numbers as this gem is rather out of the way and is rarely very busy. Once you park up, you will then have to follow a short path on foot for about five minutes before reaching the beautifully preserved gem that is the Spiaggia di Porto De S’Illixi. A truly picturesque stunner, this cove is made up of two bays separated by a jagged rock formation that juts out into the emerald green waters. Lush green Mediterranean vegetation scales up the hillsides that hug the bay and rugged rocks and cliffs are all around, giving it a truly untouched and wild appearance. The shore, meanwhile, is not quite the soft sandy type so common in the area but is dotted by pebbles so some sort of beach shoe is recommended while on the beach itself. However, once you get into the water, you’ll find that the seabed is sandy, making swimming and splashing around in the water perfectly comfortable. There are also no services – no toilets, no bars, no umbrella or lounger rentals – but, in exchange for these built-up amenities and conveniences of more well-trafficked beaches, you get a spacious and impressive unspoiled gem that abounds in natural beauty and wildlife. This really is a perfect escape in which to well and truly get away from it all while on vacation in Sardinia.

So, if you have found a holiday rental in Muravera or a vacation rental in Sardinia, generally, and are looking into the best beaches on the island, be sure to add those in and around the Muravera to your list! Boasting incredible looks, a variety of types of beaches located a short distance from each other so that there is always another to check out if others are too busy or if you feel like trying something different, and wonderfully clean and preserved settings - these are some of the most remarkable beaches that you could ever hope to visit!
