When it comes to outdoor adventures, there are many that suit only one time of year; beaches are most enjoyable in summer, hiking is most pleasant in spring and autumn. However, some outdoor adventure destinations are set up to suit different purposes and are an excellent idea no matter when you visit. Take, for example, Mottolino Fun Mountain, set high in the Italian Alps above Livigno. This adventure park adapts to the time of year and is a ski area or a bike park, depending on the season. So, if you have found a vacation rental in the Northern Italian Ski Region and want to have a holiday in the Italian Alps, no matter what time of year you are going, you will find that there will be adventures to be had at Mottolino Fun Mountain. Explore the stunning landscape of the Italian Alps while having fun outdoors!
From early June to late September (check the Mottolino website for exact dates on any given year, as they can vary), the park is a bike park that offers fourteen different routes for people at various ability levels, a jump area, a slopestyle area, an air bag to practice jumping and tricks, and a north shore area – where you can test your balance and try your first jumps. Opened during the 2005 MTB World Cup, the bike park has quickly become a meeting point for all downhill and freeride mountain bikers from all over Europe. Inexperienced riders can also come and enjoy the thrills too, however, as you can rent all of the items and safety equipment that you might need and there are trained guides from the Freeride Bike School who can come along with you to discover the Mottolino Bike Park trails. Plus, the range of trails for beginners and pros makes it easy to learn and progress.

Those who are less interested in tricks, jumps, and adrenaline-pumping adventure but want to go exploring the landscape of this beautiful part of the world are also catered for. You can rent enduro bikes, which are perfect for reaching some of the loveliest and most isolated places that are reachable only on two wheels. There is a particular route that is best for admiring the stunning alpine surroundings, which includes climbing up the new "Enduro Natural Trail" or riding to the top on the Mottolino gondola, then taking the trail down to Vallaccia and riding on to Val Trela. From here you can take a break at the Agriturismo Rini and then ride on to the Cancano lakes, then up to Val Alpisella, and, finally, back to Livigno. If you’re not quite up for that level of exertion, you can also rent an e-bike and get information on the best routes to choose.
Finally, the other two activities to enjoy during the summer season include a visit to Larix Park and hiking. Larix Park, located 10 minutes from the centre of Livigno in an ancient larch forest is a ropes course that boasts eight different suspended routes through the trees and a kids area. When it comes to hiking, there is a lot of choice in terms of length and strenuousness. Choose the one that best suits you and enjoy the amazing views as you explore this beautiful part of Italy.

Then, in winter, Mottolino becomes a winter wonderland. The Mottolino Snowpark boasts a five month-long snow season, 27 slopes at every level of difficulty, 7 lifts, a ski school with its very own slope, a snow park, two mountain restaurants, 5 freeride routes, ski and snowboard rental, and lots more besides. There are 3 levels of difficulty, which means you’ll find the ideal option for every skier, no matter your level of experience; 6 blue routes (easy), 16 red (intermediate) and 5 black (advanced). All of this adds up to make what has been one of the best and most highly-regarded snow parks in Italy for the past fifteen years now. In fact, the Snowpark has been the stage for a number of world-famous competitions, such as the Burton European Open, the River Jump and the World Rookie Fest (to name but a few), has attracted world-famous athletes, and has been a shoot location for lots of magazines. Little ones are catered for at the Yepi Children’s Course (which is named after their mascot, Yepi, who was inspired by a local fairy tale), and can learn to ski and play in the snow. Finally, one of the latest attractions at Mottolino is the freeride cross, a mixture of freestyle and free ride that combines off-piste natural terrain features and artificial snow obstacles for an incredible adventure through the mountains, guided by trained mountain professionals.
So, whether you have found a vacation rental in the Italian Alps and have planned a trip to Italy in the winter or summer season, you’ll find that adventure awaits at Mottolino Fun Mountain for pretty much the whole year!
