If you are looking to plan a ski trip to Italy, you might consider a vacation rental in Cortina D’Ampezzo, which is famously the most fashionable ski resort town in the country. Located in the Veneto region of Italy, just a two hour drive from Venice, it hosted the very first Winter Olympic Games back in 1956 and has been popular since the 1930s. Known as the “Queen of the Dolomites”, it is one of the best-known ski resorts in the world and hosts lots of different international sports events each year such as the Alpine Ski World Cup, the Tour de Ski, ice hockey and curling championships, and the Cortina Winter Polo.
However, beyond the actual skiing and winter sports that might initially draw one to visit Cortina D’Ampezzo, it is the beautiful town, elegant nature, and chic restaurants, cafes, stores, and vibrant nightlife that keep people coming back to this famously fashionable gem. If you are interested in this side of things, then it would best to plan your trip to Cortina D’Ampezzo for the 6th to the 8th of December 2019 when the Fashion Weekend will take place and the town will be at its chicest.
In its ninth edition, the Fashion Weekend in Cortina D’Ampezzo is organised by the Cortina for Us association and helps kick off the holiday season in the area in style. The weekend launches on the 6th of December with a ribbon cutting event at the Conchiglia in Piazza Angelo Dibona for the inauguration of the 2019 edition of the Fashion Weekend. From this day onwards, the length of the Corso Italia will be adorned with “Fashion Globes”, transparent plastic domes akin to giant snowglobes in which models will show off the season’s latest trends and must-have items.
Then on the 7th of December, the Cortina Fashion Weekend will set up their Sport Village on Monte Faloria. There you can check out the latest in skiwear and, even, test it out immediately by participating in the Bordercross race on the final part of the Slittoni track. In the afternoon and evening there will be DJs and Forst beer available and an amazing light show with acrobats dancing through the air and descending from the bell tower along Corso Italia. That night the Grand Hotel Savoia will host their famous and glamorous Enrosadira Cocktail Party, one of the highlights of the weekend, with its pastel dress code. In addition to all of this, the shops in town will remain open until late and host shopping events with music, snacks, and drinks.
On the final day of the festival, the 8th of December, the Sport Village on Monte Faloria will remain open for those still wishing to view and experience the latest technical innovations for the 2019/2020 winter season in skiing and snowboarding gear and, at the Socrepes Ski Area, the Ski Actors charity competition will take place, attracting some of the country’s most famous actors and biggest stars descend on the town to compete and help raise money for charitable causes.
So, if you were thinking about booking a skiing trip in Italy this December and were looking for a great destination, the Fashion Weekend in Cortina D’Ampezzo gives you one more reason to find a vacation rental in Cortina D’Ampezzo!
