Pasticceria Marchesi: A Picture-Perfect Café In Milan

We have discussed stunning cafes in Milan before but it would be remiss of us to not also mention Pasticceria Marchesi. An important and historic patisserie in Milan, it was established in 1824 and became well known for its elegant aesthetic and incredible specialties, including their Panettone, which they claim is the best in the country. With its impossibly charming interiors and tasty treats, it is a wonderful place to wile away time with a good book or head for a coffee pitstop if you have found a vacation rental in Milan and are exploring the city.
While there are now three locations of the store, the original branch is on Via Santa Maria alla Porta 11/a, in an elegant 18th century building, where the Marchesi family ran a pastry shop that became famous for its wonderful handmade confections. In the 1900s, coffee and cocktails were added to the menu of freshly baked pastries, cakes, biscuits and sweets and it became a charming café.

Now it is a landmark foodie destination in Milan with well-preserved original early-20th-century furnishings, including coffered ceilings, ancient mirrors and art deco lighting. There are also now two more branches, one located on Via Monte Napoleone 9 and another inside the beautiful Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II shopping centre, both of which emulate the spirit and aesthetic of the original and give it a slightly more modern and unique interpretation. Still incredibly popular among locals and visitors alike, the cafes are perfect examples of the tradition of stylish eateries in the city. If you are interested in food and like beautiful interiors, then this really is a must if you ever find yourself spending time in Milan. It is an especially good idea at this time of year as they are famous for their Panettone, a typical Italian Christmas cake.
