Via Garibaldi
If it was not already apparent, we're fans of Genoa here at Easy Reserve and think it is a lesser-known gem that deserves more attention. In fact, we even decided to dedicate an entire series of articles to the city, with a list of the top ten reasons why you should choose it as your next holiday destination. Here are more reasons you need to find a villa in Liguria and visit Genoa ASAP.

7. Via Garibaldi

The Old Town of Genoa has been mentioned several times already in this series and for good reason. UNESCO awarded and beautiful, this part of the city is the stuff postcards and dreams are made of. Via Garibaldi is street in this historical centre of Genoa, that is well known for its ancient palaces. Dating back to the 16th century, it is incredibly lovely and is lined with some stunning palaces, the breath-taking Royal Palace among them. Dickens is just one among the great number of writers and artists who has been enamoured with the street in the past, recording it with excitement in his travelogue:

“When shall I forget the Streets of Palaces: the Strada Nuova and the Strada Balbi! or how the former looked one summer day, when I first saw it underneath the brightest and most intensely blue of summer skies...The endless details of these rich Palaces: the walls of some of them, within, alive with masterpieces by Vandyke!”

8. The Largest Aquarium In Italy

The Aquarium of Genoa is the largest aquarium in Italy and the second largest in Europe. Located in the old harbour, it is a 33,000-square-foot structure that is an incredibly popular tourist attraction and welcomes more than 1.2 million visitors each year.

Originally built for Genoa Expo '92, celebrating 500 years since the Genoan sailor Christopher Columbus discovered the “new world”, it was designed by the Genoese architect Renzo Piano, who also was the mastermind behind the Biosfera, that we have mentioned previously.

Some think that it looks like a ship ready to head out to sea and features the additional space of a ship that was tacked on and connected by walkway to the original building in 1998.

For the last of our reasons why you should make Genoa your next holiday destination, be sure to continue on to the final post in this series.
