Highlights From Milan Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2018

Milan is famous for her fashion, right? Well, in light of the fact that the sand is still settling after the presentation of some of the most controversial, exciting and talked-about Spring/Summer 2018 shows a few weeks ago, we thought it might be an idea to round up some of the best collections that are going to hit the stores of Milan next year. If you have found a vacation rental in Milan and are planning on an ultimate fashion forward vacation, these are the brands to keep an eye out for during your trip!
1. Gucci

Gucci has officially taken over the fashion world in the last couple of years. You will see all of the most famous movie stars and influential rappers and power bloggers wearing it on red carpets and on social media and the trickle down to the high street is swift. Current head designer, Alessandro Michele, has found his aesthetic, his look and he's not budging, as we saw with his SS18 collection. The eclectic mixing of influences and aesthetics was back, as was the maximalism. Big hair and big glasses are going nowhere and throwbacks remain prominent but the styling has that Michele flair that makes things fresh and interesting. Seventies and eighties nods were dotted throughout, tracksuits and power suits walked down one after the other, furs and foils, florals and embroidery, statement slogans and lace...it was a runway that had a lot going on and yet it all came together somehow.

2. Moschino

There was one image that made certain that Moschino would be the talk of the town: Gigi Hadid, as a bouquet of flowers, walking down the runway and still, somehow, looking good. It was kind of what the expected from the brand, playful and experimental as ever but such a striking image that Jeremy Scott still managed to surprise us. The rest of the collection was like a walk down memory lane on acid with 80s pastel tones, My Little Pony tees and feathered tutus juxtaposed against studded leather jackets and accessories. At times it was like Swan Lake and a metal band had a baby, others it was like a glance back at your emo phase and then it went from fun to almost transcendent with the florals section. It was florals in a very little sense and while your average Joan is unlikely to walk down the street looking like a walking rose garden, it was beautiful all the same. It just goes to show that Scott's kitsch and fun can be radiant as well.
