Volpaia - The Wine Village Of Tuscany

Harvest in Volpaia
Volpaia is a pretty and picturesque fortified village in the Chianti Classico wine region of Tuscany. Also referred to as the Castello di Volpaia, although that is actually the registered name of the winery located there, much of the town is actually owned by said winery. In fact, it isn't really inaccurate to say that Volpaia is the wine village of Tuscany. If you are a great lover of wine, there really isn't any better town to visit in all of Italy and it has more to offer beyond the vineyard, as well. There are incredible views across the surrounding rolling hills and lush green fields of the Chianti landscape, a pretty and well-preserved historic centre, three excellent restaurants, exceptionally fresh air and various activities to enjoy.

So, if you've always wanted to learn about Tuscan wine and want to indulge in some tastings and excellent food, why not find a luxury villa in Chianti and spend a day in beautiful Volpaia.
Volpaia
Every year more than 10,000 people visit Volpaia’s cellar and it was ranked as a key alternative vacation destination in Italy in the nineties by the Wall Street Journal. There is good reason for being such a lauded hidden gem, as well. Volpaia is basically a tourism machine, though without the intense crowds and tacky souvenirs that plague other parts of the world.

Pretty and historic, there are great activities to enjoy in the town such as the cooking classes conducted by Giovannella Stianti Mascheroni, proprietress of Volpaia at the cooking school located in the oldest part of the village.

Classes are conducted in Italian, English or French and include cooking demonstrations, lessons on food and wine pairings, and how to serve Italian menus.
Barrels
There is also a wine shop located in what was once the principal tower of the town's castle, where a tasting room is reached by passing through narrow corridors and ancient staircases. Finally, the impressive fortress and pretty Gothic church with its rose window are also must-sees.

Wine, great food, beautiful views and culture – what more could you want from a vacation in Tuscany?
