Procida is a small island located in the Bay of Naples in the south of Italy. It is a place where locals make up the vast majority and there aren't many typical or well-developed tourist sights but, as a result, it is all the more authentic and unspoiled. Unlike Capri and Ischia, it is not a buzzing tourist destination and is devoid of large crowds and long lines.
If you are in search of a typical holiday destination with plenty of cultural attractions and things to see and do, it may not be the place for you. However, if you are looking for something a little quieter and more laid-back, where you just enjoy a place and its scenery, then Procida is the destination for you. Just find a luxury villa in Campania, head to Procida and take in the stunning views, try the fresh local food and lay out on the perfect beaches.

In fact, the authentic and unassuming little Procida has captured many hearts over the years and has even featured in a bunch of different movies such as “Il Postino” and “The Talented Mr Ripley” and novels such as Elsa Morante's 1957 work, “L'Isola di Arturo” (Arturo's Island).
The island is volcanic in origin and the landscape with its steeply curved bays and rocky shorelines, reminds of this past.
Much of the island is built up and covered in dwellings but areas are dedicated to farmland and a small islet, called Vivara, that lies alongside Procida is a dedicated nature reserve.
The whole island's compact size means that this diverse and intriguing scenery is all packed into an area that is easily and readily explored on foot.

The town of Porto is, for many, the first port of call, where ferries from other islands and the mainland arrive. Pretty and charming, it is full of shops, restaurants and bars, much of which is centred around the marina. Above the port, you'll find the oldest settlement of the island, which consists of a fortress, a monastery, and a former prison. It is from here that you can take in some of the most outstanding views across the Bay of Naples.
The most picturesque and charming spot on the island, however, is Marina Corricella, a town on the waterfront with a wall of colourful fishermen's houses built on and into the rock of the cliffside.
While you won't find an endless list of sights and attractions on Procida, you will find one of the prettiest and most relaxed destinations in Campania and Italy, where you can truly get away from it all, sit back and destress.
