Rabbit Beach, in Sicily, is the best beach in the world.
This is certainly true if you trust what was said by the voters and real-life travellers and normal tourists of travel website TripAdvisor in 2013. In fact, though it doesn't win every year, the beach is consistently voted by the website's users as one of the best beaches in the world. Visitors note its “crystal clear” water and “soft sand” as some of the main selling points and others note that it is “hard to believe you are not somewhere tropical”.
Located on the island of Lampedusa, next to the tiny Isola dei Conigli (or “Rabbit Island”), Rabbit Beach is set in the Mediterranean Sea and paints an exceptionally beautiful picture with the white sands being lapped by the azure water. If this sounds like your cup of tea (and why wouldn't it), just find a vacation rental in Sicily and pay a visit to this famous beach.

The whole island of Lampedusa is beautiful and fascinating, however, not just this one beach. It's not the place to go to for mile-a-minute adventures but its is steeped in history and natural beauty.
The island has been inhabited by quite a lot of different nationalities and tribes over the centuries, including the Romans, Arabs and Greeks, and there are lots of things to see and do as a result, from prehistoric huts to Roman ruins, underwater sculptures to hiking, scuba-diving to fishing.
Lampedusa also has quite a lot of beaches, not just Rabbit Beach, and they are all some of the most charming and perfect in the world. Many, including Rabbit Beach, have become quite famous over the years and can be rather crowded during the high season and at certain times of the day and week, in particular, but you won't have to travel far to find a hidden gem.

There are plenty more beaches on the island which are still hidden from the tourists and are mostly known only to locals. Most of these beaches are also really good for swimming, as the waves are not very strong and perfect for families with kids.
Make sure not to miss out on the rest of the natural beauty of the island – it's not just limited to the coast and sea!
The island of Lampedusa is quite lush and is rich in local flora and fauna. There are several different nature and hiking trails around the island, marked and unmarked, and these offer amazing views of the sea.
In other words, if you want to slow things down, immerse yourself in nature and truly relax, this is one of the best parts of Italy to do so.
