As previously discussed, Milan is one of the fashion capitals of the world and, certainly, of Italy. As such, any visit requires a little bit of shopping. If you're looking for a genuine experience of the city and a shopping opportunity that is uniquely Milanese, you're going to want to avoid most of the high streets. Instead, you should wander around the local markets and experience the shopping culture, see the city and find the best bargains.

The latest market in town is Mercato Metropolitano which opened at the beginning of May. It is in the style of a farmer’s market and is open daily (Mon-Thu from 11AM – 12AM; Fri from 11AM – 2AM; Sat from 9AM – 2AM; Sun from 9AM – 12PM). You can both buy your food and take it away or you can have your items cooked instead and eat it there. You can even grab an aperitvo after work. With plenty of street food stalls, an open-air cinema and much more, there's something for everyone! This very special market is actually part of the Expo in Città activities for Expo 2015 but, sadly, will only be open until the end of October.

The East Market on Via Ventura 14 is a genuine flea market very much in the style of the markets that London and New York are famous for.
It’s particularly special as it's made up of normal people rather than shops or companies, who come on an individual basis to sell their wares, trade or swap items and who sell incredible crafts and DIY.
There are also an abundance of sellers with vintage goods at reasonable prices. Of course, there are also plenty of food and drink trucks so you can keep your strength up and don't faint while shopping.
Each new date is announced via Facebook and social media by the event organizers so be sure to check before your trip so you can plan a visit there!
If you're still looking for more markets in Milan after these two, check out our first post with three other suggestions but don't blame us if your suitcases are bulging on the way home!
