Milan is not only the fashion capital of Italy but one of the major fashion capitals of the world, hosting one of the key global fashion weeks each season. If you're visiting the city, it's hard not to be aware of how stylish its citizens are, or of fashion itself. Presumably, any tourists who are even vaguely interested in this part of Milan's heritage will want to bring a little piece home with them. However, unlike other cities such as Paris, there isn't quite the international understanding of where to shop in Milan. So, to help you out, we've rounded up a list of some of the best places and shops to visit on your next trip. Find a holiday rental in Milan and shop until you drop.

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is, perhaps, the most famous place to shop in Milan. The shopping centre, or mall, is located right by the Duomo and is one of the oldest shopping mall's in the world. Even if you're not buying anything, it's probably the best place you could possibly go for a little window-shopping as it is so stunningly opulent and beautiful. Begun in 1865, it was designed by Giuseppe Mengoni and consists of two glass-vaulted arcades intersecting in an octagon covering the street connecting Piazza del Duomo to Piazza della Scala with a glass dome at the centre. The stores are principally made up of luxury retailers such as Prada, Louis Vuitton and Versace but there are also restaurants and cafés.

Another option for serious shopping fans is 10 Corso Como, an outlet which stocks an outstanding edit of clothes, accessories, gifts, books, art, food and beauty items from brands such as Comme des Garçons, Converse, Loewe, Herschel, Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood and more. They even have their own brand of clothing which is stocked in the store. With other branches in the likes of Shanghai, Seoul and Bejing, it's a store with an increasingly cool international reputation.
Finally, if you're after something traditional and specific to Milan, the Sermoneta store may be just the thing that you're looking for.
Selling quality gloves in wool, leather and suede, it's an institution and long-running store that exemplifies Milanese style.
A trip to Milan wouldn't be complete without a spot of retail therapy and these are some of the best stores in the city! Bring home a little bit of Italian luxury from your next visit.
