The coastal city of Ravenna offers tourists everything they could possibly want from an Italian vacation; art, culture, excellent cuisine and a splendid coastline to explore.

The artistic monuments of Ravenna are what earned it a worthy place on UNESCO’s World Heritage Site list in 1996. Ravenna was once the capital of the Roman Empire from 402AD which transformed it into a glittering metropolis of expensive extravagant buildings and a haven of creativity in term of art, architecture and especially the art of mosaics.
Mausoleum in Ravenna
Eight large monuments which are beautifully preserved to this day helped earned Ravenna its prestigious World Heritage Site status. Begin your artistic tour with a trip to two mausoleums here which were beautifully constructed and decorated on the interior with vast vibrant mosaics of rich blues, oranges, greens and gold colours.

The Orthodox Baptistery and Arian Baptistery were solidly built using Istrian stone and the latter has a magnificent dome that will entrance anyone who lays eyes upon it! It’s completely covered in a stunning mosaic depicting biblical scenes. Tourists could quite easily spend a day or two in Ravenna fully absorbed in the beauty of these treasures!
