Sail To Lampedusa Island In Sicily For A Few Hours

If you’re spending a wonderful holiday in Sicily and would like to visit an interesting attraction for a day or two then why not sail southwards to the scenic Italian island of Lampedusa! It’s part of the Pelagie Islands that belong to the Sicilian province of Agrigento. Despite that the nearest land mass to Lampedusa is Tunisia at a distance of 113 kilometres, it is the territory of Italy at a distance of 176 kilometres from southern Sicily.

Rabbit Island, just a few hundred feet off the coast from Rabbit beach is a fascinating place to observe.

This protected area is where the rare Loggerhead sea turtles come to lay their eggs. Learn all about the circle of life of these intriguing creatures and observe them in action as they swim to this special place during the year.

This natural paradise offers a wealth of scenic trails and snorkelling and scuba diving enthusiasts have plenty to entertain them just of the shore as well. The marine and coral life below the water’s surface around Lampedusa Island is magnificent!

Or why not embark on a scenic boat trip around the island to fully appreciate the beauty of the small sandy beaches and rugges coves here. See the eerie sight of the ‘Madonna del Mare’ statue that sank to the seabed close to the shore of Lampedusa.

On a clear day, it can be easily spotted or dive into the water with a snorkel to get a closer look.

Pull on your hiking boots and climb to the heights of Lampedusa Island to soak up some mesmerising views. Monte Rosso, Monte Nero and Mote Vulcano are excellent spots to visit.
